Archives of the Newspage from 2010 (the year of our 45th Reunion) until the current year
Friday 9/10/10--
Thanks to those who attended the 45th Reunion last month and forwarded a completed evaluation of the event via email. Results have been forwarded to the 45th Planning Committee and those who have volunteered to work on the 50th. Criticisms were largely constructive and will help in the future. Many reported having had a very good time last month. Hopefully, those who were absent will see evidence of that good time in the photos posted on this Web site. Maybe we'll see you, next time!
Saturday 8/28/10--
For those of you who attended the 45th and received multiple emails carrying the evaluation form, the Webmaster apologizes. My email was fouled by a very large outbound file (26 megabytes) that got tangled up with Gmail just prior to sending your evaluations and caused an endless loop of re-sends and bounce backs. This tied up all my bandwidth and email for 24 hours until I paid for off-site technical advice that helped me end the cycle.
Not wanting to miss anyone [and not having had verification of my former send(s)] I felt I had to do it again when the conflict cleared. Sorry for any inconvenience. And here's a tip: If you're a Gmail user, don't attempt to send gigantic attachments through your email.
Friday 8/27/10--
An evaluation of the 45th Reunion is being circulated toward learning what worked best and what did not. It is being sent to all who attended for whom we have current email addresses. After the anonymous feedback is compiled, results will be forwarded to the Planning Group to guide future efforts.
Tuesday 8/24/10--
Some are beginning to think that they missed an order form or means to access commercial photographs from the reunion for purchase. That is not the case. At the top of this Web site's "Home" page, there are links to the order form for Tee-Shirts and the DVD Reunion Program, along with a link to Photos-In-A-Flash. This will allow you to review all the commercially shot images for sale from the reunion and make any choice for purchase.
Also, we have been asked about publishing all the contact information for all classmates now in the hands of the Planning Committee. Unfortunately, this will not be possible. We previously pledged to all contacts that such information would be kept private (at least by us).
However, if you cannot find the email address of a classmate in the public post area that you want contact with, just complete a contact form there (which will make its way to the Webmaster) requesting the email address of someone else. That person will be contacted on your behalf with news of your request—and response will be up to them. This method may seem convoluted, but it has been working for several months now.
Sunday 8/22/10 [9pm]--
The 45th Reunion is now history and approximately 220 participants have headed home after a weekend of events that provided a lot of that prime activity that all reunion participants want— VISITING! There were 75 at the Friday No-Host, 226 for dinner on Saturday night, and 75 for brunch on Sunday.
Thanks to all the participants, especially those who came from great distances to re-establish contact. And thanks to those who worked for months to make the last three days possible. Those of you who wish to present yourselves for planning work at a future event may complete a "contact form" at any time to offer your help.
Information about and instructions for ordering the 45th T-Shirt and video program will be posted soon under the 45th Reunion menu "tab."
Many reunion photos are still in processing and will soon be posted for all to see. In addition, those of you who shot photos and want to forward them for possible posting can go to the "Post Photos" menu for instructions on how to proceed.
Again, thank you everyone.
Saturday 8/14/10--
As of today's final RSVP deadline for the 45th Reunion next weekend, the final count will be 203 for Saturday night's dinner and 72 for Sunday brunch. A total of 128 classmates will be present over the two events. Thank you for the healthy turn out! See you next weekend. For those attending, a professionally shot and edited dvd will be sold on-site for $25 and will be delivered in the weeks following the reunion. Further ordering details will be posted on this Web site, and those NOT attending can also order this video.
As for still photography, a number of those attending will be popping photos of others and a large assortment of those shots will be posted on this site post-event.
Sunday 8/8/10--
Last night til midnight saw 182 unduplicated visitors to this Web site for the previous 24-hours. This is the highest number of visitors since July 13th. The RSVP deadline for payment is less than a week away, and the reunion itself less than two weeks away. Many have the reunion on their mind. The Webmaster will be taking photographs of reunion participants with the intent to post such photos on the Web site for all to see—particularly those who are not attending the 45th.
Friday 8/6/10--
Two weeks from tonight in Oakland, the first event of the 45th Reunion Weekend, (No-host cocktails) will be running next to the pool at the host hotel. You, too, can still be part of the 4-6pm no-host events both Friday and Saturday afternoons at no cost. And if you wish to join the (now over 180 people) for dinner, program, and dancing on the night of the 21st, please get your check sent by mail to Jim Charlton by next Saturday August 14th.
Saturday 7/31/10--
Although the 45th reunion event is solid, adequately subscribed, and in no danger whatsoever of cancellation, the deadline for payment has been extended two weeks to Saturday August 14th by mail to Jim Charlton.
Tuesday 7/27/10--
We had another high in unique Web site user participation last Sunday, 7/25. There were 180 unduplicated visitors.
Tuesday 7/20/10--
Any classmates who are members of the Procrastinator's Club are running out of time to commit to the 45th Reunion next month, as the RSVP-paid deadline has ticked down to 10 more days remaining to get a check to Treasurer Jim Charlton. Previously paid classmates have received their written confirmations this week.
The Saturday dinner count is now at 144 people, so it should be a great evening. As for Web site business, here's a reminder that the Webmaster departs for the Bristlecones tomorrow through August 2nd (and therefore will be disconnected from this bit of cyberspace). So, if you have photos or a public email address to post, a blog comment to submit, or a contact form you wish to transmit—you have 12 hours left for that from this morning. The 'site will continue to be available for viewing, however, 24/7 throughout this coming 13-day period.
Saturday 7/17/10--
What to wear?
After a few calls from classmates to members of the Planning Group, it was decided in the 7/14 reunion preparation meeting to identify the suggested dress "code" for Saturday night's buffet dinner as Business Casual. This was all well and good, and it was done in the spirit of letting participants know in advance what they might pack for their trip. Since the Webmaster has remained 100% in support of lowering anxiety for ANYONE even considering attendance at the 45th Reunion, this was welcome news! Then came the bad news.
The Webmaster was charged with the responsibility of identifying just what the _eck "business casual" meant, and to post it on this Web site. This is as scary as giving the submarine missle keys to a drunken sailor. Your Webmaster was well-known in his mountain community as the person who always wore shorts; summer, winter, at work (college teaching) or at play. His wife would not (even if tortured) tell you that he could be confused with being "fashion-conscious." Therefore, he has done the only thing he could think of—research, identify, and share (all left-brained activities). Here, then, is what Wikipedia says about Business Casual. Ladies, Wikipedia did not offer an example photo for you, but it's likely you are smarter than we fellas.
Compared to the the dress code of many blue collar and service workers, business-casual dress is not a uniform. In contrast to business informal, there is no generally accepted definition of business casual wear. Some business casual workplaces allow their employees to wear blue jeans, while other business casual environments expect men to wear neckties. The interpretation of business casual differs widely among organizations and is often a cause of confusion.
The New York Times cites job search Monster.com's definition:
"In general, business casual means dressing professionally, looking relaxed yet neat and pulled together."
An employment counseling office at an American university defines business casual dress as a middle ground between business formal wear and street wear. The following are examples of appropriate workplace apparel from some organizations with a business-casual dress code:

Things are really popping on this Web site. Usage over the last four days from (separate) users has run 210, 188, 133, and 162 ending at midnight, last night. We are now down to 15 days until reunion sign-up/payment ends. So it looks like many are sizing up the event and readying their payment to Treasurer Jim Charlton. Thanks for that!
Thursday 7/15/10--
I just wanted to tell all of you Titans that the Planning Committee for YOUR 45-year REUNION had a great meeting at our Holiday Inn venue today. We are all very excited and looking forward to seeing all of you. If you have not decided to attend as yet, "COME ON, BE THERE!" Jim is waiting for your check. Best— Kenny Saltzstine.
Tuesday 7/13/10--
Shazaam! A new record for Web site visits was notched as of midnight last night. The unduplicated visitor count blasted through all previous records with 210. We also got some Titan Talk blog postings, so thank you Titans!
The Planning Group meets tomorrow (at the reunion's hotel) for what may be the last time prior to our event in August. Again, time is fleeting, and there are now only 18 days remaining for your RSVP check to reach Jim Charlton by the deadline of July 31st.
Wednesday 7/7/10--
The time remaining until the 45th reunion is getting very short. The RSVP deadline is now less than 25 days away. The Search Committee has been working back through its records to locate every possible 1965 class member, but it seems all the easy "finds" are gone. We have run out of "tips" and imagination. Improved results can only come from the rest of you. As they say in the movies, "Somebody knows SOMETHING." Anything you can remember about a classmate may be of help. To stimulate your thinking, please go to the Find 'em page and run through those we still need to find. You may know more about what might help us than you think. So get digging! Send your tips or finds to the Webmaster via a contact form on the "Contact Us" page and he will get it to the searchers. Thanks.
Tuesday 7/6/10--
There's good news again on the use of this Web site in terms of volume statistics. The period midnite Sunday to Midnite Monday, 7/5/10 produced 135 unique visitors (unduplicated count). People must have reunion on their minds. The Planning Group hopes this includes you, too.
The Webmaster announces his temporary departure from daily management of the Web site, beginning Wednesday 7/21 and ending Monday 8/2. The 'site will still be accessible, 24/7, but the reception and posting of information from Contact Forms, or from 45th Reunion Management work will cease during this period. So, if you're inclined to make a Blog comment, submit a photo for posting, publicly post your email address, or contribute information for the MIA or Deceased Lists— you should do that by 7/19 or be prepared for a 13-day delay. Where the Webmaster is going there are no phones or Internet access.
Monday 7/5/10--
If you haven't been browsing the 'site lately, please note that seven more photographs from the September, '09 mini-reunion event in Pleasant Hill have now been posted near the beginning of the collection. There are at least six new flashing smiles to look over, and one fairly complicated line dance step. Penny (Yates) Becchio, Paula (Stockman) Keane, and Marla Bach Saltzstine— I'm talkin' bout you! Elsewhere in these new shots, you'll see that Linda (Steel) Fernandez has begun a second career as the lead in the new Supremes. Go see the photo. I think they're doing their rendition of, "STOP, In The Name Of Love!"
If you happen to be looking for the Deceased Classmates list, it hasn't disappeared. It just got moved into a sub-menu position underneath the Find 'em page. Again, if any of you have new (or corrective information) please forward it as we wish to be accurate about this list.
This just in. If you are not registered-paid for the 45th, (Saturday night's dinner & program), you are still welcome to join your classmates for the no-host cocktails period 4-6pm on both Friday and Saturday afternoons, 8/20 & 21. There will be sticky name tags waiting for you (since we're getting to the point in life where it's difficult to keep singing the theme to CSI, Las Vegas—WHO are you? who-who-who-WHO? Yeah, I wanna know, too. So stick a name tag on yourself! Paid registrants will have their own name tags with '65 yearbook photos. No gold braids, but hopefully, it will be correctly spelled.
Saturday 7/3/10--
The past week has seen some "healthy" use of the Web site by viewers. On four days since Sunday, June 27th, the midnite to midnite count of "unique" visitors has topped 80. While this is not as high as the heavy use noted around March 25th, just after email invitations went out to all known addresses (then producing about 175 visitors) this is still the highest visitation in over a month. Use of Titan Talk has not been all that the Webmaster hoped for. Either the subject matter threads were a lost cause, or we have a seriously introverted assortment of folks in our class. A message from Aunt Blabby sez, "Talk it up, out there!"
Thursday 7/1/10--
The next meeting of the 45th Reunion Planning Group is set for 11am on Wednesday, July 14 at the Holiday Inn Hegenberger Hotel (our reunion venue). Contact Ken Saltzstine for more information, or to attend.

- for women: A reasonable length skirt (not mini-skirt) or full-length trousers of a non-jeans material combined with a top (such as a dress shirt, polo, or sweater set) is considered acceptable. An informal dress with appropriate skirt length is also acceptable.
- for men: A combination of collared shirt (such as a dress shirt or polo shirt, cotton trousers (such as khakis or dress jeans) with a belt, and dress shoes (such as loafers) with socks is generally acceptable. A blazer or business jacket can optionally be added.
- Unacceptable for either gender: gym clothes, rumpled or ripped clothing, miniskirts, underwear as outerwear, inappropriately revealing attire such as bare midriffs, and flip-flops. Many corporations also frown upon open-toed shoes and any shorts.
