Will There Be a 50th Reunion ? YESSSS !!!!
Fifty years. Five Uh-Oh. Five ten columns and no units | 5 | 0 |
Are we kidding? Nope. In 2015 we will have been out of Skyline High School for half a century. When we left it was said that no one over 30 should be trusted. Well, how do you feel about that now?

Our major gathering will be on Saturday night at Sequoyah Country Club. There will be a Friday pm no-host meet and greet (at Plank, shown below) and a Sunday no-host brunch at the Buttercup Grill & Bar .(also shown below)
Friday No-Host Gathering Location (5pm - ?)
Something to note: There are two Oakland A's games scheduled at the Coliseum (against the SF Giants) for Friday night 9/25 at 7:05pm, and Saturday afternoon 9/26 at 1:05pm. This could increase traffic congestion and delays on the Nimitz, nearby surface streets, and the Coliseum BART station. Plan your travel time accordingly.
Main Gathering at Sequoyah, Saturday (5pm -to- 10pm)
Saturday night, September 26, 2015, Skyline's '65 Titans will gather at Sequoyah to mark a half-century.

50th Reunion News--
Sunday 9/20/15--
Your Reunion Committee has operated four more planning meetings since our last report to you of May 11th. All the details have now been run down, and we will produce your event beginning just five days from now. Badges for paid attendees are sorted and stacked. Decorations are ready to be placed. The Greeter/Entry team has received its final instructions, and Sequoyah's staff is ready to serve you next Saturday night. There will be plenty of spread-out space for everyone, and you will have plenty of quiet background for visiting.
Those not already paid and confirmed need to notify the Webmaster and be prepared to pay $100 per head at Sequoyah's door on Saturday night. The $70, $80, and $90 pricing has now expired.
We are still building a brunch list for Sunday the 27th at the Buttercup Grill, and most of you have been emailed a reminder to send the webmaster a notice of your anticipated attendance before this coming Thursday at 5pm. We need a count so that Buttercup can plan the food for the room we have set aside. The total cost for the brunch (including tip) is $20 at the door, and the otherwise no-host event runs from 10am -to- Noon. If you can't make the Friday or Saturday gatherings with your celebrating classmates, Sunday brunch represents your last chance to recognize the passage of five decades with your peers. As of today that list has 27 participants.

Town Crier:
'65 Skyline class trying to locate time capsule The Montclarion By Ginny Prior, Columnist 8/5/15 |
The Sixties. They say that if you remember them, you didn't really live them.
Still, someone in the Skyline High class of 1965 must know where the time capsule is buried. The reunion committee went out to dig it up the other day and couldn't find it.
"None of us was apparently at the event when the capsule was put below ground," says reunion committee member and financial planner Larry Ginsburg, "which is why, even given our ability to have 'senior moments' ... we do not know the location of the time capsule."
Ginsburg says a group of seniors buried the capsule on campus 50 years ago, with the idea that it would hold all kinds of stuff that would help them remember 1965 at their reunion in 2015.
"We are hoping one of your Montclarion readers may know the 'secret' location. We do want to find the capsule and have the contents available with the other 'Titan' memorabilia that will be on display at our reunion," Ginsburg says.
Maybe the opening reception can include a group excavation -- kind of a bring-your-own-shovel affair. I can dig it ... can you?
Note: The Skyline High class of 1965 50th reunion is Sept. 25-27. For more information, or to help find the missing time capsule, see the reunion website (Skyline65Oakland.weebly.com) managed by classmate Billy Martin.

Monday 5/11/15--
Today at Noon, your Reunion Committee met in phone conference to make more plans for the lead-up to our reunion in September. It was decided that a videographer would be present at the reunion at no cost to the class, as long as an email list was provided him so that a post-reunion video could be marketed, sold, and delivered to those who want this. This bumps up against our previous policy of no commercial activity with our contact information. Therefore, an email will be sent by us in advance that will allow classmates to "opt out" of the list that the videographer will market to in advance of the reunion. The process? You tell us in response to an email we will send you in the next 30 days that you don't want to be listed with others whose email address will go to the videographer—and we will keep your email address off of it.
The Early Bird price of $70 for our Sequoyah, Saturday night tickets will convert to regular pricing of $80 after June 30, so a notice of this pricing change will go out to all classmates who have not yet purchased a ticket on June 1st.
Lastly, the decision was made that the Sunday brunch on 9/27 will be held at the Buttercup Grill and Bar, 229 Broadway in Oakland, located in the same block as the Inn at Jack London Square. A room of 80-person capacity has been booked for 10am -to- Noon.

This morning, the Reunion Committee's follow-up to our March 3rd, E-vite (an E-mail "blast' through a commercial service) went out to get class members advised and motivated about the reunion in September. Between now (and then) we had received about 80 commitments to attend the reunion, some noes, a passel of maybes, and a huge flock of no responses. We were planning on today's follow-up, anyway, so that a far greater number of details about September could be shared. Out of the meager 340 email addresses we've been able to collect, a consistent 12-to-18 or so continue to always be undeliverable.
This is why we often remind classmates to keep their email and contact information current. If you change it or move (and we don't have a follow-up phone number) our connection with you is severed for good (or should I say Bad)! Please, stay in touch.

Friday 3/20/15— Tomorrow is the first day of Spring, so how's our progress? Contracts for blocked rooms at two hotels have been signed, and these rooms will be held until August 27th. Pricing is complete, and payment for our Saturday night dinner can now be made at the above address. Lodging and travel pages are now posted to aid your planning. A follow-up bulk email will go out shortly, with an invitation to take advantage of Early Bird prices, good through June 30th. The Sunday brunch details are close to complete, and all else is humming along to ensure you have a pleasant reunion experience in September. Curious who has said they're coming? Check out the list for yourself, accessed from the 50th Reunion pull-down menu (above).
Tuesday 3/3/15--
Today, the E-vites for the 50th Reunion went out via email to 340 SHS '65 classmates, and thus far we've had only 18 email addresses that were no longer valid. So this is an opportunity to remember to stay connected with this website and keep your contact information current.
Responses from the E-vite have begun from those who will, and those who may, attend the 50th in September. As they come in, names will be added to the list on this website for "Who Will Attend The 50th." Pricing is available above, and your early payment buys your attendance at a discount.

Your Planning Committee met today and made some progress on the way to the '65 Titans' formal invitation to reunion activities. A venue was chosen for the Friday night no-host gathering. It is called Plank, and it's near the estuary at Jack London Square, featuring bocce ball, bowling, food and drink. There is lots of space both indoors and outdoors, and ample parking is close by. The venue is mapped and satellite imaged (above), and classmates can drink, eat, and play, or walk to several additional restaurants in the immediate vicinity if they want a more formal sit-down dinner.
We are still working on a central hotel accommodation where a block of rooms will be reserved. Pricing of the Saturday gathering at Sequoyah should be firmed up by 3/1, and your E-vite will follow shortly thereafter.

Today, the tally of those planning to attend September 26th's big shindig at Sequoyah for our 50th has reached 104. If you know you will attend, please communicate this to the Planning Committee via the Contact Us menu choice, just above. It really helps us with the planning effort.
The Planning Committee will meet next Monday, 2/23 to finalize the budget and establish pricing and other details of the event in advance of our sending an email blast "E-vite" to all our contacts, requesting that all '65 Titans save that date.
Here's one of those sample "details." At our age, you can't be sure the person you're looking at is a classmate or not, so our badge design makes it easy to identify who is a classmate and who is their guest. A sample is shown below, so please remember to bring your significant other.

Today, the 50th Reunion Planning Committee met by conference call and made progress on your event. The budget is nearly complete, and in our next meeting of 2/23, it will be reviewed once again and formally adopted. Shortly thereafter, our pricing for the reunion event of Saturday 9/26 will be posted here and on the 50th Reunion page of this Web site. Other events on 9/25 and 9/27 will then become the focus of the committee's time.
It is anticipated that once pricing is set, it will be discounted in steps for early purchase. In the past few months, there has been an effort to discern how many classmates might attend the reunion. Additional efforts toward securing this estimate will accompany bulk email updates to those classmates who've kept their contact information fresh with us. Soon, we will also post a list featuring who is planning to attend, and later, who is committed as a result of having bought their ticket(s) in advance.

Your 50th Reunion Planning Committee had another meeting today which sharpened the plan to produce next September's event. Sub-Committees reported their recent work on (venues, food, and drink), (decorations and set-up), (classmate search), (background entertainment), (budget, collection and dispersment), (on-site registration), and (graphics, invitations and name tags). The next full-committee meeting will be in early February, when it is expected the final budget will be adopted. That will be followed by pricing, and not long after, classmates will see postings here and through invitation email for the events.
As you might guess, pricing is dependent upon expected attendance versus expected expenses. Our previous attempt to canvas the class for likely attendance produced "underwhelming" response, so if you are now more certain about your participation next September, telling us between now and 2/1/15 would still be helpful. As always, please stay tuned, and keep your contact information current with the Webmaster so we don't lose you.

Thirty days have passed since a "Save the Date" email went out to all on our email list. The results have been tallied and only 20% were returned. There were 66 respondents representing 67 who intended to be there, 21 not sure at this time, and 8 definite noes. The data is meager, but still a bit of help to the Planning Committee, who needs clear feedback to plan facility layout and potential additional events. Those not responding will likely get another "ping" to gauge their intentions in another 60-90 days. Meantime, if you become decided before then, just write your intentions in a note to the Webmaster with a contact form from the upper right menu (above).

A mass e-mailing to every address your Planning Committee had went out yesterday to provide an update on the planning effort and to assess classmate interest in attending the 50th. Another reason this was done was to discover how many addresses we have on file that are now inoperable (and there were many). If you're on this page right now and never received our 10/15 message, please go to the Contact Us menu above and write the Webmaster with your current email address. We always need updated and complete contact information. Mailing address and phone numbers are welcomed.

Members of the Skyline High School Class of 1965 50th Reunion Planning Committee have been identified. They include helping hands both local (in/near the Bay Area) and from far away, such as their residences in Ohio and Texas. The first meeting will be a phone conference and it will commence on Monday, August 4th. So, with the conclusion of this first meeting, the 50th Reunion planning effort will finally be actively underway.
You can follow the progress right here between now and the event, already scheduled for the weekend of September 26-27th, 2015. The first major element of the Committee's efforts will be the selection of the venue.

A Message from Bill Nelson to the Class of 1965
Saturday March 8, 2014.
Good Day!
I’m happy to announce to all of you '65 Titans that we are in the early planning stages of our 50th class reunion in 2015. Many of you returned evaluations of our 45th. The consensus from those was that the last reunion was a lot of fun, but the next one could be better in specific ways. Accordingly, we’re thinking of an evening event without a formal program and with ample opportunity for people to talk to each other with good acoustics so we can all hear. No loud music will be located in the same space where people just want to visit. Time and space for mingling and catching up is what people want, and based on the post-45th evaluation, that's what we’ll plan for. We are also thinking of a picnic the next day and perhaps an evening cocktail party the night before.
I’m writing to ask two things:
1. Please rank the following weekends in 2015 in your preferred order:
A— Memorial Day weekend (May 23-24th )
B— Non-holiday weekend (Jul. 25-26th)
C— Non-holiday weekend (Sep. 26-27th)
D— Columbus Day weekend (Oct. 10-11th)
I'm not asking for your personal commitment to attend—just your date preference.
2. If you are interested in joining our planning committee and could conveniently attend some of the on-site sessions in the east bay, please write Webmaster Bill through the “Contact Us” menu on the Web page or at his direct email [email protected]. We would welcome your help. There will also be opportunities to assist from afar, if you wish.
Please email your preference for the reunion’s date by giving us a priority-ordered response to the dates above, such as the following example, “B C D A” where your best is B and your worst is A. PLEASE Respond to Bill Martin with this BY MARCH 31st. We’ll get back to you with a save-the-date email ASAP, when the reunion date is firm.
