Your webmaster heard by email from SHS67's Douglas Saunders that they have plans underway for their 50th reunion in 2017. It's nice to get started early, but already? Douglas says that about 250 have been located and he'd like to find more. So if you know of connections or referrals to members of the Skyline Class of '67, please write the Webmaster so he can put you in touch with Douglas. Knowing about brothers and sisters of the members of SHS67 is a connection that often provides pay dirt, so don't be shy about taking out your '65 yearbook and reviewing what might be our older brothers and sisters. And happy Solstice to all (3pm PST today). We gain 2 more minutes of daytime (every day) from now until June 21st!

With sadness, I report that I received notice from Michaeal Rabo this morning that our classmate Jane (O'Connor) Rabo has passed away. In Michael's own words, here are the details that follow the two O'Connor girls wedding two Rabo (cousins).
"My wife of 42 years, Jane S. O'connor/Rabo, died on November 17th, 2014 from a lengthy yet courageous battle with Ovarian Cancer. She is survived by her twin sister Jean N. O'Connor/Rabo (twins married cousins). Condolences may be sent to Michael Rabo, 9535 Jones Ave., Durham CA, zip 95938 or on-line with The Enterprise Record Newspaper, Chico CA, Obituaries, Guest Book, under Jane S. Rabo. I send her deepest regrets, she truly loved all of you Class of 1965. GOD BLESS ALL"

Your Webmaster's hopes came true once again, when someone I wanted to connect with during the last 49 years finally fell for my trap. By "trap" I mean that part of the reason that this web site exists so that when classmates get curious and reminiscent in our advanced maturity, they Google our high school and/or class year, and bingo!, they get steered to this Web site. My former neighbor, friend, and sometime backpacking companion Bob Scott turned up on the contact form that was routed to me from the Contact Us page last Saturday.
I returned his email with digital scans of slides I took on Memorial Day weekend, 1965 when he, I, and Dave June (Class of '66) hit Yosemite back-country via backpack and returned via a trip up the cables to the top of Half Dome. The cables were almost deserted back then, and Bob had LOTS more hair than at present. We spoke for nearly two hours today, catching up on careers, family, and interests. In high school, I rode on the back of his Vespa, and later his Yamaha 250—but never got into motorcycling myself until after 2005. It is thrilling to re-connect with friends who've been missing from one's life for so long, and that is part of what reunions are designed to provide!

Another (formerly) missing Titan found our Web site and wrote in a message on the Contact Form to say hello. It was Leslie (Senger) Ganick, who we had absolutely no information on for all the years since graduation. She and her husband are both teachers of environmental education in the northeast Bay Area. Welcome to YOU, Leslie.
Those who want to contact Leslie will find her on Facebook.

Here's a Kasper's Hot Dog tip from last Monday when Larry Ginsburg and Tim Hallahan lunched with SHS 64's Shayne Del Cohen to compare class reunion plans. [Kasper's, at 2551 MacArthur Blvd, just west of Bret Harte Middle School is a Skyline alumni Monday lunch spot] The conversation was primarily about veteran reunion planner Del Cohen's work for the Class of '64, which will gather in August for their 50th, and what Larry and Tim can learn from the '64 planning effort.
Turns out that a work party on the campus will convene on Sunday August 3rd from 9:30am-to-Noon. A few benches will be re-furbished and some trees will be planted. Your contact for this project is Sue (Bingham) Pate, who can be reached at the following email address: [email protected] Many hands make for light work and you could end up seeing some '64 Titans at school that day because their reunion is the night before. Give a hand if you can. The campus could use a dose of your tender loving care.

And so it goes. The 50th Reunion Planning Committee has been identified and will gather within the next week to begin the their work toward September, 2015. It's composed of both close-in residents from the north, east, and south Bay Area, with a sprinkling of those "further out." Stay tuned for developments; the first of which is likely to be the selection of the venue for our 50th.

Another double bonus tonight. Not one but TWO women classmates we've never had contact records for, wrote in on the Contact Us form to establish links with us. This is just as your Webmaster hoped as we begin to approach the date of the 50th reunion. The two ladies were Marilyn (Johnson) Mitchell, and Linda Willis. Let's hope there are more out there who will search the Web for this site.

You know that feeling when things you've really wanted for a long time (and essentially have given up on) come together? Last night was such a night for your Webmaster here at SHS65Oakland. As you can see in the Post Info page, one of the three people I've wanted most to re-connect with is Mike Hall. And he fulfilled my hopes when he wrote to me last night from the Contact Form located in the Contact Us menu, above right.
Mike was my backpacking, climbing, and snowshoeing companion for our junior and senior years at Skyline. (As an example) before we could legally drive, my dad dropped us off in Norden, CA, just west of old Donner Pass during Christmas break for three days and two nights. We departed with full packs and snowshoes, crossing Boreal Ridge, the graded (but unoccupied) path of the current Interstate 80, and on up Castle Valley, only to be snowed on 18" overnight. It was wet, miserable, and wonderful. I don't know how my dad could have slept while we were away at 15 years of age. I would never in a million years have left my son up there in the winter. Mike and I had many other successful trips together in the Sierra back-country and became quite proficient at scrambling up non-technical summits without mishaps.
I've been fortunate to find a few others in the past couple of years through the web site and hope to increase the pace as we near the 50th reunion. I hope you all get to find someone you've missed when you attend the 50th.

It's official. After receiving a preference vote from over 80 classmates who responded (between March 8th and March 31st to Class President Bill Nelson's email request), the 50th Reunion Planning Committee has answered according to the arithmetic ranking of your preferences. The weekend of our upcoming reunion will be September 26-27, 2015. All Titans are requested to save that date. For the next 17 months, all reunion details will be shared on the "50th Reunion" pull-down menu (above).

The Webmaster would like to announce that of the 335 email addresses to which the 3/8 message just below was sent, approximately 15 have come back as undeliverable. We have tried to follow up on these classmates when we have additional information such as addresses and phone numbers, but in most cases, these people have changed these elements without telling us, so we've lost them. Their only hope of connecting with us at a 50th reunion is if they tap into this website, call another classmate who IS connected to us, or call the school for information (once we've established details and posted it at the Skyline offices). This is why yearly reminders to stay current with contact information have been previously emailed.
If you have contact with the following classmates, please ask them to forward their updated contact information to the Webmaster through the Contact Us menu above and to the right:
Christine (Dys) McGenn Rogerson, Erica (Deissler) Celestre, Toby Bernstein, Dave Behrens, Cindy (Andrus) Merritt, Steve Abouaf, Sally Peckenham, Sue (Peckenham) Howat, Sandy (Stradley) Mead, Carol (Payne) Faeth, Steve Parsens, Tim Manke, Kathy (Horberg) Bacon, Walt Fosburg

The work toward producing a reunion gathering to celebrate the Class of 1965's 50th anniversary reunion has now begun. Class President Bill Nelson sent an email message to all the electronic addresses on file tonight. The message asked for classmates to select from four possible dates across the May-to-October period in 2015 for the reunion. That message is posted on this website in case some class members had stale email addresses (or none at all) on file with us.

Our '65 classmate Babs Wiener got a Facebook post from a current Skyline student leader recently. The 2014 senior class is selling various years of Skyline yearbooks to raise money for their senior trip. They have a list of the number of yearbooks available by graduating class, though not too many. A few are available for 1965. Some of you have lost or misplaced your copies (or maybe never acquired one in the beginning). And you might also be interested in the '64 and '63 books to complete your collection for the years you went to school on the hill. The person to contact is Justin Anderson. His email is [email protected]
Now may be your chance to connect the names you recall with a face from the past to trigger that internal phrase in your brain, "Oh, I remember them." Then, the only thing remaining to end your odyssey will be to attend the 50th reunion next year to see if that image in your head for the name you remember can be tied to these strangers circulating around the room. Actually it's not always that challenging. There is a large contingent of returning reunion participants with less of a challenge. They often can be heard saying, "Oh, ____, you haven't changed a bit since I last saw you!" [Yeah, because that was just five years ago!] Oh well; please come to the 50th, anyway.

One of our classmates that your Webmaster has been trying to find for a very long time has been Mike Blake. Nothing ever worked—until Mike filled out a Contact Form on the upper far right menu of this Web site this morning and asked about finding and sharing with others. Got him!
